Why Choose Craft Sha Neatsfoot Oil?

Craft-sha's Neatsfoot Oil Vegetable Oil Compound is a high-quality leather conditioner formulated to replenish conditioning oils within leather fibres, helping maintain flexibility and prolong the life of leather goods. This vegetable oil-based compound is designed to penetrate deeply into leather fibers, restoring suppleness and extending the lifespan of your items. Ideal for maintaining saddles, boots, belts, and other leather accessories.

Key Features & Benefits of Our Japanese Leather Conditioner:

  • Deep Penetration: Effectively moisturizes and revitalizes dry, stiff leather.
  • Non-Greasy Formula: Absorbs quickly without leaving a sticky residue.
  • Mild Aroma: Less odor compared to traditional neatsfoot oils.
  • Versatile Use: Suitable for a variety of leather products, including saddles, boots, belts, and more.

Why Leather Needs Conditioning:

Leather is made up of tightly interwoven natural fibres that gradually lose their internal oils through regular use, exposure to sunlight, heat and dry environments.

As these oils are depleted, leather may become stiff, lose flexibility and become more prone to surface drying over time.

Craft Sha Neatsfoot Vegetable Oil Compound is designed to replenish conditioning oils within the leather fibres, helping restore suppleness while maintaining the natural feel and character of genuine leather.

It is particularly useful for vegetable tanned leather used in leathercraft, saddlery and handmade leather goods.

Suitable Leather Types:

Craft Sha Neatsfoot Vegetable Oil Compound works best on:

  • Vegetable tanned leather
  • Full grain leather
  • Top grain leather

It can also be used on some chrome tanned leathers. Because chrome tanned leathers vary in finish and absorbency, always perform a patch test before full application.

Not Recommended For:

Avoid using on:

  • Suede
  • Nubuck
  • Patent leather
  • Synthetic leather
  • Heavily coated leathers that prevent oil absorption

How to Use Craft Sha Leather Oil for Best Results:

  1. Preparation: Ensure the leather is clean and completely dry before application. If necessary, clean it using a suitable leather cleaner such as Columbus New Neo Cleaner or Fiebing's Saddle Soap, depending on the leather type.
  2. Test: Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first to check for colorfastness or unwanted effects.
  3. Application: Apply a small amount ("less is more" ) using a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or wool dauber. Use gentle, circular motions for even coverage.
  4. Absorption: Allow the oil to penetrate for at least 30–60 minutes. For deeper conditioning, leave it for several hours or overnight.
  5. Buffing: Wipe off any excess oil with a clean, dry cloth and buff to a smooth finish or subtle sheen.

    What to Expect After Application:

After applying the conditioner, the leather may temporarily appear darker or slightly uneven.

    This is completely normal.

As the conditioning oil gradually penetrates the leather fibres, the appearance generally becomes more uniform. Allow sufficient time for absorption before deciding whether another coat is necessary.

Once the oil has been fully absorbed, you may apply a leather balm or leather cream if additional nourishment or surface protection is desired.

    About Craft Sha's Formula:

Craft Sha's current Neatsfoot Oil uses a vegetable oil-based conditioning formula developed specifically for leather care.

Unlike traditional animal-derived pure neatsfoot oil, this formulation is designed to provide deep conditioning while producing a noticeably milder odour.

Japanese product information lists oleic acid as a key conditioning ingredient, supporting excellent penetration into leather while helping maintain flexibility.

Ideal for routine maintenance of vegetable tanned leather, leathercraft projects and handmade leather goods.

    Leather Care Notes:

Leather conditioners help replenish oils lost through everyday use, but they cannot repair cracked or structurally damaged leather.

Avoid over-application, as too much oil can leave leather feeling overly soft or greasy.

Allow the conditioner to absorb fully before applying a leather balm or leather cream for additional nourishment, or a protective leather finish where appropriate.
